“Map it on your Smartphone! Check out this new app… Oh my gosh I just rocked that Angry Birds game! Didn’t you get the FB notification on your phone?”
Ahh… my answer is always the same: “I don’t have a Smartphone.” Which is followed by, “YOU DON’T HAVE A SMARTPHONE!?” It’s almost as dramatic as the lunchroom scene from Mean Girls. For those of us who lack our smart-devices… we might be feeling a little like social outcasts.
According to the PEW Research Center in March 2012, 46% of American adults are smart phone owners. This is an 11% increase since May of 2011.
- Android devices are used by more than 20% of cell phone owners, up 15% from last May.
- iPhones are used by more than 19% of cell phone owners, up 10% from last May.
- Blackberry devices are used by 6% of cell phone owners, down 10% from last May.
Let’s face it, these Smartphone aren’t only essential for keeping up with the social buzz, but also play a big role in the business world. According to Jessica Wilganowski from RainToday.com, “Nearly every business person has a smartphone, and they’re using it to access information quickly while they’re on the go. Now is the time to develop your business’s mobile marketing strategy to make sure your target buyers have the information they want and to gain an edge over your competition.” Whether its for work or play, Smartphones have become a necessity.
