The murder of Biggie Smalls, also known as The Notorious B.I.G., rattled the music industry and the rest of America. Biggie was killed on March 7, 1997 and his fellow rapper, P. Diddy released “I’ll Be Missing You” in memory of his friend.
Cathy Scott from Forbes Woman reported:
Biggie’s murder sent a shock wave through the music industry as one more rapper was killed, a short six months afte Tupac Shakur met the same fate on a street just off the Las Vegas Strip. Biggie’s murder remains unsolved, despite early predictions by Los Angeles police that his murder would be solved. It has raised more questions than it has answered, especially in the wake of the bitter West Coast-East Coast rap rivalry that Biggie, from the east, and Tupac, from the west, became entrenched in.
Biggie’s murder still seems to be fresh in the minds of Americans. Friday, March 7th was the15th anniversary of Biggie’s death. According to Chris Neary, from On the Media:
Friday, at 11:33 A.M. the AARP tweeted “We Miss You, Biggie.” Yes, the American Association of Retired Persons tweeted a succinct, moving elegy to a giant of the rap world. Perhaps because there’s no apparent reason why the AARP would tweet out a remembrance of a hip-hop star, the tweet was a big hit on Twitter, spawning the hashtag #NotoriousAARP.
